Residencies
The Philharmonia has residencies at venues and festivals across England, giving the Orchestra a national footprint. Our residencies are more than just a series of concerts; they give us the opportunity to embed ourselves in the cultural lives of our communities through the full spectrum of our Learning & Engagement programme.
Southbank Centre, London
The Philharmonia presents around 40 concerts at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall each year. It has been our home since 1996.
The London Season encompasses major projects with our Principal Conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali; Sunday matinees; and free early-evening concert series Music of Today and the Philharmonia Chamber Players.
Corn Exchange, Bedford
In our longest-standing residency, since 1995, the Philharmonia presents several concerts a year, and an extensive Learning & Engagement programme, at Bedford Corn Exchange.
The Philharmonia’s presence in the town is possible thanks to the support of the Philharmonia Orchestra in Bedford Trust, and its major partners Arts Council England, Bedford Borough Council and the Harpur Trust.
De Montfort Hall, Leicester
Over two decades the Philharmonia has become an integral part of the cultural offer in Leicester, offering several concerts throughout the year and working through our Learning & Engagement projects to engage the local community.
We are grateful to Leicester City Council and the many supporters who make possible the work the Philharmonia brings to De Montfort Hall and the city’s communities.
The Marlowe, Canterbury
Since the theatre reopened in 2011, the Philharmonia Orchestra has been resident at The Marlowe in Canterbury. We perform several concerts a year, and collaborate with the theatre and local partners on a range of insights and learning projects.

The Anvil, Basingstoke
The Philharmonia has been Orchestra in Partnership at Anvil Arts, Basingstoke, since 2001. The Anvil has one of the finest acoustics for live orchestral music in the UK.
Three Choirs Festival
The Three Choirs Festival is the world’s oldest classical music festival, established over 300 years ago. Hosted for a week each summer, the Festival rotates annually between Gloucester, Worcester and Hereford, and is centred on the respective cathedrals of those towns.
The Philharmonia is central to the festival, performing most nights with the Festival Chorus, commissioning new music and contributing chamber recitals and families concerts to the Festival’s programme.
Garsington Opera
The Philharmonia is Resident Orchestra at Garsington Opera in Buckinghamshire. Each year, we perform as part of two or three productions in the summer as well as collaborating on education and audience development projects.
In 2025, we perform Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore and Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades.
