Mahler’s Fourth Symphony is Mahler’s sunniest symphony, with a detuned violin depicting a folk fiddle and a setting in the final movement of the Wunderhorn song ‘Das himmlische Leben’ (The Heavenly Life) depicting a child’s view of Paradise.
This recording is conducted by the Philharmonia’s former Principal Guest Conductor, Sir Charles Mackerras.
